I have found each area of study at Bixby to be equally attuned to my children’s needs.  The teachers are most notably skillful at guiding them where needed and recognizing areas of difficulty before they become more difficult.

Pat’s stories taught me both that boastfulness rarely goes unpunished and that fluid, elegant speech is essential if one’s words, like Pat’s, are to have impact.

Gifted Education at Bixby

At Bixby School we don’t label our students in order to provide a specific TAG program, rather we provide a curriculum that meets students' needs very well, both academically and emotionally.  Our small instructional class sizes (approx. 1:8), personalized schedules, emphasis on problem-solving and analytical thinking over memorization, differentiated curriculum (particularly in literacy and math), classes in art, music and Spanish for all students, and balanced emphasis on social as well as intellectual development provide a great fit for most gifted youngsters.  Perhaps as many as half of our students show gifts in one or more areas, which provides the likelihood of each child finding intellectual peers.  Our staff meets weekly to discuss individual students in order to maximize their academic, social and emotional development.

Our Gifted Education Coordinator, Margaret Wallace, has a master’s degree in gifted education, a Colorado endorsement in gifted education, and over 30 years of work experience in the field.  She is also parent to a highly gifted adult son and enjoys meeting with parents to discuss their youngsters’ unique needs.  She consults with staff  as well as meeting with students.  Please contact her at margaretw@bixbyschool.org.
