All of the teachers here are students of your child.  The understanding they develop about how your child thinks and learns is remarkable.

We offer opportunities ranging from specific, one-time experiences to ongoing service.  Parents may  participate in classrooms, on committees, and serve on the Board of Trustees.  In addition, we have a group called Parents at Bixby (PAB), which meets most months to discuss child development, curriculum, and other topics of interest to the Bixby community.

How do you discipline students?

Bixby School’s expectations and rules are those demanded by safety, common sense, and consideration.  The basic expectations consist of: taking care of and respecting oneself and others (physically, emotionally, and intellectually), as well as taking care of one’s own and our community’s property.  The full policy is available in the Handbook for Parents.

How do you communicate with parents?

Informal communication occurs daily at drop-off and pick-up times.  Parents may also request appointments with teachers, or conferences with directors.  All staff can be reached either by email or by phone.  In addition, we publish Curriculum Notes, the Bixby Bulletin (our newsletter), and the Handbook for Parents.  Thursday Folders (Elementary), Parent Pockets (Preschool) and bulletin boards are used to communicate current activities and events.

Do Preschoolers need to be potty trained?

No.  We work in collaboration with parents to help children potty train.
