Parent Resources
The resources you'll find under the categories to the left are provided for the convenience of the Bixby School community. Their inclusion on our website does not mean that we endorse the providers nor that we agree with the positions stated or content contained therein.
We do strongly advise that parents thoroughly preview any website before allowing their children access. (For more information on kids and the internet check: www.childparenting.about.com/od/familycomputer/a/kidsafeinternet.htm and www.edtechoutreach.umd.edu/cybersafety.html )
Some Notes From Margaret Wallace, Bixby Gifted, Education Coordinator
Sylvia Rimm is one of my favorite experts on many aspects of parenting. I encourage you to explore her websites at www.sylviarimm.com and www.seejanewin.com (specifically about girls). We have some samples of her newsletter “On Raising Kids” at Bixby. Articles include such titles as: “Anti-Nag Morning Routine,” “A United Front” (consistency among parents), and “Bright Kids, Poor Grades: And What You Can Do About It.” She’s an expert in reversing underachievement among gifted youth as well as a parenting expert in general. I urge you to use Dr. Rimm’s work as a resource whether or not you consider your child “gifted” because she’s a real pro on parenting.
