Curriculum

Children make choices between a variety of “open” activities that are designed to help with children’s academic, artistic, physical, and social development.

The core of our curriculum consists of sound, developmental preschool activities such as easel painting, clay, storytelling, dramatic play, music, movement, block building, outdoors, sand and water, puzzles, and sets of items for manipulation and development of mathematical thinking.

We maintain a balance between activities that are driven by the needs, interests, and developmental levels of the children.  These experiences are:

• structured and unstructured
• planned and spontaneous
• indoor and outdoor
• child-initiated and teacher-directed
• short-term and long-term
• isolated and ongoing projects
• repeated to allow children to build on previous knowledge
• rotated and refreshed to invite new interests
• changed throughout the day

In addition, activities may be integrated using projects and themes to help children’s learning in social, emotional, artistic, scientific, dramatic, physical, construction, linguistics/literacy, mathematical, and musical areas.
