When I started Addison at Bixby I was concerned that the play environment would not stimulate him mentally, but have found the opposite to be true. He comes home and works on "homework" on his own volition and will work on it for quite some time. He copies words, letters, sounds out words, writes letters, draws, paints, etc. His attention span has clearly increased and I think that has a lot to do with allowing the children to choose how long they do an activity rather than redirecting the whole group to a new activity when the teachers need to move on.

Jenny has this way of making each child feel so cared for...I've seen her doing two or three things at once and still be able to sweep up a child who is having difficulty saying goodbye to mom or dad. She doesn't just observe - she really interacts and coaches!

I would love to let the teachers know that they are a really wonderful group of people. Not only am I impressed by the ways I see them addressing the children, respectfully, but also making certain they treat their friends appropriately. They do a good job of helping the children learn that cliques are not friendly, and to deal with the natural tendencies of children to include some friends and exclude others. Addison will bring up the fact that someone would not play with him that day, or that someone else wasn't his friend, but he works it out in his own conversation and I can see he has been given guidance.
