andrewm@bixbyschool.org BA Communication, Legal Studies – University of Massachusetts-Amherst Elementary School Teacher Licensure (K-6) M. Ed. Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education As a teacher, I believe that the student-teacher relationship is at the heart of learning and this serves as the foundation for my teaching. I discovered my love of education as an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the non-profit organization Reading Partners in 2011 after graduating from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. From there, I served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer working with the Teaching English for Livelihood Programs in Colombia where I taught students in elementary, middle, and high school alongside Colombian colleagues in the Institución Educativa Distrital de La Paz. After completing my service, I joined the Boettcher Teacher Residency program, where I spent my first year in Colorado obtaining my Master’s of Education in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education while being mentored by an expert teacher. I have been working in bilingual education since then and for the past six years I have been a 1st and 2nd grade bilingual teacher at Columbine Elementary with the Boulder Valley School District. When I’m not teaching, I love spending time with my family, spending time exploring the outdoors, and learning new languages. I am beyond excited to be a part of the Bixby Community and am really looking forward to this next adventure!
