Pancakes, Pancakes!, written and illustrated by Eric Carle, is a favorite story for many. In a brief synopsis, it is about a young boy, Jack, who has a hankering for pancakes. His mother, who is much too busy with other household chores, says sure…on one condition; with little assistance, he is to make the pancakes, from scratch, from start to finish.
Over a period of one month, the preschoolers brought this story to life! They spent their group time churning the milk into butter, grinding the wheat into flour, and crushing the strawberries to make strawberry jam. Upon completion of preparing all of the necessary ingredients, they celebrated their hard work by mixing all the ingredients, cooking the pancakes, and truly savoring every last tasty bite! Literacy…a way to learn, explore, and…make a special treat!
